Really good game and the plot twist totally caught me off guard! Honestly I didn't see that coming, such amazing writing! Looking forward to your other games. Anyways here's my live stream. Chat had a lot of fun watching the mystery unfold
there's a couple sequences (the apple orchard especially) that are pretty difficult to complete if you have a visual disability. i think honestly based on what some people have said that the orchard sequence could really do with a timer or a button that highlights the apples. i understand it's supposed to be a tedious menial task to put the player in a certain mindset, but like, i actively could not complete it and had to watch some nerd on youtube play the game instead. :/
Mothered freaked me out on a personal level that has not happened in a long time. You have a skill for story telling and creating dreamlike sequences. You have a fan for life. Thank you
This game was an amazing sleeper. Played Mothered, and loved the unsettling nature of Mother, the gritty neon aesthetic, and the hidden paths. Months later, I learned of the Demo on the PSX Horror Disk, and I had to check it out, and I am glad I did.
This game (and tbh all of Enigma Studio) is an example in story telling and world building. You know something is off from the get-go, but what you assume immediately is only the surface layer.
I admit at times the degrading graphics did become a bit much, and I started to feel a little off, but I still love it. Something about a game breaking down while you play it allures me (i.e Pony Island, Inscription).
I will say, Mothered: Home did have a few moments where I had become soft-locked and unable to progress. Speaking to mother on a certain day while sleeping through the week caused the bed to disappear too early, which meant I couldn't advance. Same with attempting to enter Mother's room on Friday evening in the Demo. Game locks you in, but you can't hear the argument with Mother and Father to progress, and need to restart. It could be though that I had missed some alternate triggers.
Overall, an amazing experience, and one that spans several games.
Can't wait for Echostasis. Keep up the awesome work y'all.
Is there a way to reset the save data? After playing the demo disk, i wanted to start fresh when I purchased the full game, but for some reason, the game always starts me on tuesday
After playing the Demo Disk, I replayed the enigma machine and then the echostasis demo. and it occurred to me i never typed in that six digit number to dreamscape. then the connections too ... the statue, the barn, the trio. the mother, the daughter, and the holy ghost - sort of. living in the shadow of your own death, indeed.
i love this game and i love all the others and it makes me feel a really certain way. it speaks to me like little does. i'm one of those people that saw supergreatfriend play mothered and then got super attached to thinking about everything in the series, and the demo disk has made me even more excited for what echostasis thematically represents to it all. it's not often i'm excited for new games these days. thanks for the work you've done. it's the kind of stuff i really have always wanted to see made.
Hey! I played this in the Spectral Mall Demo Disc and included it in my roundup video. Starts around 14:14 (if you only want to see this game). Best of luck with the development!
I cannot believe I forgot this came out. I love all of your projects and the Haunted PS1 Demo did a great job reminding me lol
This game is damn creepy. Not like kinda goofy kinda fun.. no this is get under your skin, does its job extremely well creepy. I dont know why but it really made me feel like I had been there before, like a dream. Anyway I will be playing the whole thing, thanks for scaring the hell out of me.
You cannot go to sleep with someone else in the room.
This review will contain Spoilers for the game, I wish there was a way for me to hide text on Itch but there isn't so read this comment at your own risk. So after watching somebody beat both endings of this game I can only assume one thing. Liana is stuck in a loop for a majority of the game, the loop starts on Sunday Night and ends on Sunday Evening. a loop of staying at your mother's house at a week before she stabs and drops you somewhere in the barn and burns it down. However on one of the days you can go against what you're supposed to do and make it to Sunday Night. You can go to your dad's car and leave. I really want to play This Game, The Enigma Machine and [ECHOSTASIS] when it releases but I'm broke (And I think that my computer would die trying to run them). I really wish I could form some sort of timeline between the 3 but I can't because I haven't played them.
What an absolutely amazing game. Kudos to the writer(s), this is a story-telling milestone and you deserve to know that. A second playthrough is a MUST for everything to click. Do not read any further if you plan to play this, just go play it or watch your favorite youtuber (as long as its the full thing, and not a cut up inconsistent video for the 'lols')
We had such a blast playing this. Was genuinely impressed by the storyline, and the whole atmosphere. I loved it. It's worth it's price and we love what you did with this piece! My sis and I played it in one sitting and can only recommend.
Incredible. I love The Enigma Machine so thank you for this. Feels like story wise Mothered could be a prequel to The Enigma Machine if I'm not mistaken. Played Echostasis Prologue as well. I cannot wait for the full release of that one. Keep 'em coming.
Ok, so I've played a LOT of itchio horror titles, and the mass majority of them are quite bad lol! I went into this game half-expecting Mothered to be full of the same ol' tired tropes found all over itchio horror, but I have to say that I was quite happily surprised. This game is fantastic! The beginning of the game had me a bit fooled into thinking it would end up being like the many other itchio horror titles I've played, but this game was a sleeper hit for sure! The creativity in the visuals, dialogue, text prompts, transitions, character models/movements clearly all had purpose, and intention. They all served the story in some way, when initially it doesn't appear that way. And what blew my mind was that, arguably, the best part of the game/story (where everything REALLY comes together for a fantastic conclusion) is hidden away in a secret ending!! Ballsy move for sure, but holy hell is the secret ending SO good! This is genuinely one of the best experiences I've had playing a game. Amazing job!
For anyone wanting to play this, I recommend doing a normal playthrough spoiler-free (maybe takes about 2 hours), and then speedrun your way to the secret ending (which can easily be done in maybe 15-20 min. Below will be spoilers on how to get the secret ending.
(SPOILER) HOW TO ACTIVATE SECRET ENDING After your you've collected all the apples from the Orchard, do NOT talk to you mother as she's instructed you to. Instead, head back inside the house (with the basket of apples), and place them on your father's record played in the living room. That's it! Enjoy the greatest part of the game/story!
One of the best storylines I have seen. I really loved the different outcome for another ending. Nice plot, very creepy and so well made. Very clever. I loved it. Keep it going, can't wait for more from you.
This game is literally fantastic! You should definitely consider putting it on steam! I think it would do really well on there. Also, IGP played your game! Good job developer(s)!
another question is this game completed?? I played my round 2 and it seems the same?and itβs sucks that I canβt read the tiny words in the far back
It is completed, yes! I might make a few slight updates like bug fixes and such, but it's 100% feature complete. There is more than one ending, but the key to triggering it is a secret :)
Loved the game, however one issue I had (especially on repeat playthroughs) the apple-picking sequence is very difficult for people with visual impairments, particularly colour-deficiency, and I end up spending a good 15-20 minutes on that sequence alone. Having the apples be more visible, either with an extra pattern on them, a glow of some kind, perhaps a more intense colour, or if adjusting the visuals is not possible, then allowing the player to skip the collection on the second try. Thanks for making such an excellent game!
Thanks you very much for the feedback. I failed to consider colour-deficiency in that particular section and I'm sorry for that. I'll be sure to address this in an update!
This game filled me with more dread than any horror experience I've seen in ages. The uncanny visuals, the way that Mother moves... Kudos for hitting a particular vein of horror that I've never seen in a game.
Someone sure is a greedy little goblin, 10 dollars for a stock unity asset quality game built on patreon money that was spent for echostasis development. You want me to pay for your toilet paper too?
Hi, man. I bought your game, but receive a message. Moneys gone, but I haven't access to Your game and ITCH.IO support dont response. I have a proof of paying from my paypal account.
This was excellent. Very nice little atmospheric notes of like, idk how to describe it, Windows 98 horror? Like the graphics, the size of things in comparison to you, the little design choices like how the characters move and whatnot, it all felt like being a kid and playing those creepy old computer games that were just not quite right after playing Playstation or Nintendo games. Little bit of active point and click mechanics with the way you interact with things. The first few times I did it I felt like they were going to be obnoxious but very quickly they felt natural and not encumbersome at all. I wouldn't say it was scary, but extremely unsettling and consistently kept my interest. Big "I Feel Fantastic" vibes for sure. And it had a very compelling story, very well crafted and displayed lore, always just giving you a taste and keeping you guessing. Completed it in about 2 hours, but I'm assuming there is more than just the ending I got, and I was interested enough that I will go back later today or tomorrow to see if I can get anything different. All in all, definitely worth the $10 price tag in my opinion. Played through it on a Youtube stream last night for a few friends, and the video is still public on my channel but I don't really want to link my youtube and my itchio account in any real direct way lol. But all my friends that were watching it had similarly positive things to say about it. The only complaint I have is incredibly minor, and it's that sometimes the music was just way too loud for my taste in certain areas, but that could just be my personal preference.
all in all after letting it sit with me over night I give this an 8/10, will be looking forward to future works for sure.
A Steam version is something I'm heavily considering! And don't worry, I'll be ensuring that everybody who buys the game on itch will also receive a Steam code if and when that version releases. Thanks for the kind words!
Hello, I read that you'd be making the Steam key available to those who purchase the game on itch after the Steam release. I recently purchased it here, so I was wondering if there's a way I could could get the Steam code from you. Thanks in advance, looking forward to seeing more of your work either way.

Really good game with nice and disturbing aesthetics. The story was quite cryptic, but you get most of it by the secret ending.
It was a nice experience, I want to play the rest from Enigma Studio if the other games are as cool as this one!

This was SO good. I'll be playing the full game soon. This was from the Haunted PS1 disk.
Don't watch someone play it. Do it yourself.

did you ever figure this out? I am having the same issue tonight, and I have deleted the appdata multiple times :-/
1) Press Windows Key + R to bring up the "Run" window.
2) Type "regedit" and click OK.
3) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ENIGMA
4) Right click on the "MOTHERED" folder, and click "Delete".

Jeez, guess parents have a firm hold on their card so ya can't snag it.
The game is probably not for you to be fair. Seems like the story would be a little too complex for ya. Try Fortnite
hoping to see a steam version so i can play this game! looks amazing.
On Steam, release is not far away. :)
CAN YOU MAKE FREE THIS GAME????
haha what
Hi, man. I bought your game, but receive a message. Moneys gone, but I haven't access to Your game and ITCH.IO support dont response. I have a proof of paying from my paypal account.
